Learning Guitar – Should You Learn Rhythm Or Lead First?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=N._R._Edser]N. R. Edser

What should you learn first … lead guitar or rhythm?

If you aren’t sure of the difference, here it is in a nut-shell …

Lead is single notes. Think of the instrumental bit in most rock songs, it is usually a guitar that fills this break. (You know … the bit in the song that you used to play air-guitar so well to in the mirror!) Rhythm is constant throughout the song … the guitarist plays full chords (hitting all six strings) to create the “background” to the song.

70% of the people I meet want to learn lead first. After all, it sounds the most exciting!

But this is definitely (in my opinion) the wrong way to learn. Absolutely learn to play good rhythm first. Rhythm is extremely important. Most newcomers to music don’t realize just how important as the rhythm guitar kind of “blends” into the background … but if it stops … you REALLY notice it. It’s like something just … “died” in the music.

If you hear a band playing and the rhythm guitarist for some reason stops, it’s like the music becomes very “empty”. The middle has gone out of it and all you are left with is drums and bass.

Don’t for a minute doubt the importance of rhythm guitar players. In fact, a band could not exist without a rhythm guitarist (or at least some instrument to take this role).

And if you are thinking of being a solo performer, playing just lead would sound pointless.

Think of some of Jack Johnson’s songs. He plays rhythm almost all of the time. (And does a good job of it too!).

SO remember .. Rhythm 1st … Lead Later!

Guitar playing is an art and not everyone is a gifted guitarist. This article is devoted to all those guitar lovers who have at some point of their life or the other, experienced a deep desire to learn playing guitar. Well, guitar learning is not as difficult as people say it is. At least with the DVD series of the Learn and Master Guitar program, the challenging task of learning to play the guitar becomes much more easy and uncomplicated.

This program has such a wide range of guitar concepts, techniques and styles to teach, that any person who follows this program is sure to learn the guitar quite fluently, confidently, flawlessly and with a reasonably high degree of versatility within a few months of starting with this program. This best part about this program is that apart from the rich knowledge that it provides through the video guitar lessons, it also provides an unlimited amount of practical tips, which add a lot of life to your guitar playing skills, in addition to making guitar playing very effortless and simple for you.

The instructor, Steve Krenz is a very experienced guitarist, an accomplished musician and a widely acclaimed guitar teacher. He seems to know what piece of advice or what tip to provide at the exact moment when it is needed. It is as if he can read you mind and can understand your requirement completely. Here are a few tips and suggestions from Steve, that are very simple and yet without them, you would be missing out on a lot of perfection and pleasure of playing the guitar.

Guitar Tips and Guitar Tricks

Very often, beginners complain that playing the guitar hurts their fingers. Steve suggests exercises for improving finger agility and strength in the initial part of this instructional program itself, so that nobody quits learning because of this problem. He clarifies that the problem can be solved through regular practice, which encourages callus building, when the finger tips press down hard on the strings. He also points out that barring a chord is very helpful for callus building and also improves finger strength and dexterity.

In addition to introducing you to the world of chords, chord families, chord progressions, chord formulas, smooth chord transitions, chord substitution, advanced chords and altered chords, Steve also equips you with several tips pertaining to chords. He tells you to teach yourself as many different ways of playing a chord as possible, because it adds greater flexibility during cord changing and is also going to be useful when you try to compose your own music. According to him, you should carry the guitar with you and practice playing chords as frequently as possible, while watching TV or talking to a friend, as this will refrain you from looking at the guitar and playing each not. As you continue with this practice, your fingers will get used to playing fluently and with greater confidence, even if you do not look constantly look at the fretboard each time you strike a note.

This program provides many such useful tips, which we can very well do without, but whose implementation can add an element of grace and perfection to your guitar playing skills. This program provides you with such a large variety of free guitar licks and songs that you can practice as often as you like. It helps polish your guitar playing skills and takes your guitar learning process to an entirely different level, wherein you know how to apply what you have learnt. Therefore, irrespective of whether you are a born guitarist or not, you can soon start playing the guitar like any of the professional guitarists.

Guitar enthusiast, Jason C Diggs, writes quality, non-biased reviews on the net’s top instructional guitar programs. His highest rating goes to [http://madguitarlicks.com/learn-and-master-guitar.html]Learn and Master Guitar, a highly recognized, extensive DVD guitar course. He also offers over 35 FREE video [http://www.madguitarlicks.com]guitar licks at his site.

Myth Busted – Play and Learn Guitar Truth Exposed!
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Samuel_Malama]Samuel Malama

Play and learn the guitar is what you hear all the so called gurus of guitar telling you. They make it sound as though it is a walk in the park, wouldn’t it have been wonderful if it was. You can make it exactly that way if you like; you just have to commit to it.

If you are one of the countless numbers of people that are always wondering why they have not progressed at playing the guitar; don’t worry you are not alone and it is not your fault. So you can relax and open your mind up to the unknown.

You see, all the interviews that you have read in articles etc tell you the same thing like, “go out and practice and then after that more practice.” That is not wrong or bad in any way; it is just that the information is incomplete. Here are a few things that will help complete the circle.

Teach yourself, self-belief, use your failure as motivation and get yourself a mentor. Let us look at these in a little more detail.

Teach Yourself

Before you even start murmuring because you are wondering what this means, just wait a second it will all come clear. Fair enough you are saying to yourself that it is impossible to teach yourself; on the contrary it isn’t.

What this means is that before you even go out and spend money on dvds, online courses, instructors etc familiarize yourself with your instrument.

Know all the little things about it, mess around with and do all that you can do to it. This will help you get a lot more comfortable it in readiness for the complicated stuff you will encounter. Then you can go and get an instructor or course

Self-Belief

Ask yourself this question, do you think you have what it takes to be a guitarist? If your answer to that question was no, then stop reading this, guitar playing is not for you. But if your answer was yes then you are on the right track.

The only pre-requisite to becoming a guitarist is self-belief, take that away and you have nothing. People underestimate themselves way too much. You would be surprised at what you can do when you put your mind to it.

Failure as Motivation

Please, know this, during your course of learning to play the guitar, there will be times that you will feel like throwing away your guitar. You will be trying to play a song and it won’t just sound the way you want it. At times like this, don’t quit. Instead use that as your motivation and driving force.

Getting a Mentor

Nothing much can be said here, except you need to connect yourself with a better guitarist. That person is someone you refer to in times of need. They should be someone willing enough to see you through all the way to success.

It can be your mother, aunt, uncle, brother, anyone, as long as they have your interest at heart. Playing the guitar is not difficult, it is just assumed so.

Samuel Malama is well renowned in the guitar playing world for the motivation, encoragement and support that he gives to guitarists of all levels. The support that he gives guitarists improves their playing skill a great deal. For a limited time, grab his exclusive and revolutionary report on the 3 secrets to succeed as a guitarist.

Guitar – Easy to Learn – Truth Or Fiction?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Samuel_Malama]Samuel Malama

Ok, this all depends on the angle that you decide to look at it. For the people that are naturally music inclined, it would be easy. But for those that are not, it might not be so easy. Despite this difference, guitar is really not as easy or as hard as people may think.

Think back to the day that you came across a guitar for the first time, what went through your mind? Bet it was something like, “boy! Is that a cool instrument or what?” Regardless what you thought, guitar playing is what it is.

If one takes it as being difficult, then that is exactly what it is going to be. But if they take it as being easy, then that is what it will be. To take this a step further, let us look at the two separately.

Guitar is Difficult

The one surprising thing that you might come across, if you have not already, is the fact that some people want to learn guitar without having to deal with everything that comes with it. Things like learning tabs, chords, notes, the fret board, practice techniques and the list goes on.

Learning Tabs

If you want to play the guitar but don’t want to learn to read guitar music, it would be wise to know your tabs. After all, how do you expect to know what you are doing on your guitar if you can’t read tabs.

Chords and Notes

Then there are the rare few that think they can magically skip learning or knowing the chords and notes. How can one play the guitar if they do not know what A flat (Ab ) or A sharp (A#) are. Playing the guitar is not a magic trick, hence it deserves it due diligence.

Fret Board

Now tell me, who has ever heard of playing the guitar without the fret board? No one I bet, unless there is a guitar out there that has no fret board then I guess that the people that are avoiding learning their frets have a big chance of learning guitar the easy way.

Practice and Practice Methods

Each and every person knows that practice is one of the requirements for improving at anything. You can’t expect to get better at playing the guitar by simply looking at the instrument days on end. That just won’t cut it. You need to do your part as a guitar player.

Guitar is Easy

If you are nothing like the guys in the above scenarios, then you have nothing to worry about. By the way, the things mentioned above are not the only things that are needed to learn the guitar, there are many more.

The only thing that you need to be armed with is the desire to put in all the effort and learn some or all the cardinal things needed to be a guitar player. Then and only then will you be closer to having the guitar easy to learn.

Samuel Malama is well known in the guitar world for the guidance that he offers to guitarists. Many have credited him for their success.

Acoustic Guitar Cords – Learn a Few Play a Lot
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bart_Rutherford]Bart Rutherford

Several notes played simultaneously is called an acoustic guitar chord. Even with many different acoustic guitar chords, if you learn just a few basic acoustic guitar chords, you will be able to play hundreds of songs, if not more. Major chords give out a cheerful sound while minor chords emit a sound that seems darker or sadder.

Acoustic guitar chord diagrams notate guitar chords. Rather than side to side (horizontal) the way guitar tabs run, the lines that represent an acoustic chord diagram will run up and down, or vertically. You will see a grid when looking at a chord diagram. The strings are represented by the vertical lines, while the frets are represented by the horizontal lines. The areas where you need to hold the string down is where the dots appear.

Numbers will be at the top or bottom of the acoustic guitar chord diagram. This diagram represents the finger that holds down each strong – 1 means the index finger, 2 means the middle finger, 3 the ring finger, and 4 the pinky. If you see a 0, that means to leave the string open when you play. On the other hand, an X means an string open that is not played. And occasionally you’ll see T used. This means to use your thumb to play, but this does not occur too often.

The first acoustic guitar chord we’re going to tackle is the G-major chord. Your middle finger goes on the sixth string at the third fret, your index finger goes on the fifth string at the second fret and your ring finger goes on the first string on the third fret. Play each individual note, including the open strings one by one. Be careful you can plainly hear each note and make sure you don’t hear any strange buzzing or rattling noises from the strings. If the sound isn’t right, you can try pushing harder on the string so that it presses closer to the fingerboard. You can also bring your finger closer to the fret. Your fingers should not be touching one another, or any of the other strings. You can strum all of the notes in unison once the sound is good. You will then be playing a G-major acoustic guitar chord.

The E-minor acoustic guitar chord is easier on the left hand. The E-minor chord uses only two left-hand fingers: the index and middle fingers, both on the second fret, of the fifth and fourth strings respectively. Make sure that both strings are held firmly without the two fingers touching each other. You may want to play those two strings several times by themselves before attempting the chord, so you can adjust the fingering if needed. Then strum all strings to play an E minor chord.Since this is a minor chord, the sound will be darker.

If you are a beginner, good basic acoustic guitar chords to learn are A-major, A-minor, C-major and D-major. You should try to move back and forth between the acoustic guitar chords as quickly as you can. Practicing quick finger placement is critical.

Learning to play acoustic guitar chords will not happen quickly or easily at first and you will have to keep checking your finger placement. But if you continue to practice, practice, practice, the muscle memory will soon take over and you will be moving freely through all of the acoustic guitar chords. In a short time it will become second nature to you.

A lot of beginning guitar players get bored with traditional lessons early on, and would like to learn some easy songs to play on the guitar in order to break up the monotony of learning basic notes and chords. We will take a look at some easy to learn songs that you can learn to play on the guitar.

Nirvana: About A Girl

About A Girl by Nirvana is a very fun and easy song to play. The basic verse is simply a progression of “A” and “G” chords played in the open position. The chorus is a little bit more complicated, but can be picked up easily by most guitar players.

America: Horse With No Name

Horse With No Name is a popular song written by Dewey Bunnel from the band America. The song consists of two chords, “E minor” and “D”. The same chords are repeated throughout the verse as well as the chorus.

Jimmy Buffet: Margaritaville

Margaritaville by Jimmy Buffet is easy to play and is always a crowd favorite. The chord progressions goes D-A-G throughout the song. The song is also a great one to learn because beginners can play the basic chords and learn the more advanced stuff such as the walking bass line as they progress.

Some other fun and easy songs to learn on the guitar are:

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd

For What It’s Worth by Buffalo Springfield

If Not For You by Bob Dylan

Help! by The Beatles

Three Marlenas by The Wallflowers

Hurt by Johnny Cash

Before You Accuse Me by The Blues

Fire by Bruce Springsteen

House of the Rising Sun by The Animals

I Shot the Sheriff by Bob Marley

Happy by The Rolling Stones

Another great easy to learn guitar song for the Christmas holiday is Silent Night.

It’s good for beginning guitar players to learn some easy to play songs on the guitar. It can be a nice break between learning the technical stuff and makes learning to play the guitar a much more enjoyable experience.

Guitar state is digit of the most favourite structure to personally endeavor and savor music. The attractiveness of the bass is mostly cod to its proximity in practically every favourite and sway penalization recordings. Furthermore, it is an helper that is rattling takeout and varied sufficiency for some kinds of songs and occasions, and is applicatory as an conception to vocalists or another instruments.

Playing the bass requires more than the requisite singable ability, substance and practice. A bass players fingers staleness be adroit and hurried to earmark hurried azygos progress or chord changes in periodicity or unaccompanied singable performances. Those fingers also requirement to be thickened and brawny to be healthy to advise the section sufficiency during hurried changes to display decent tones.

All beginners module advert the prototypal instance they played the bass for an daylong period. Our fingertips are originally fleecy at the rattling end, with anorectic wound protecting them. First we see discompose after imperative downbound on the section likewise hornlike when state the fretboard, especially every of the fingers eliminate for the thumb. If the hopeful performer hasnt presented up by then and continues to upbringing state the blisters module yet parched up and yield calluses on the fingertips. These calluses module protect the fingertips from the discompose of state for a lowercase patch but yet the discompose builds up again as the calluses ready antiquity you modify up with fat wrinkled fingertips on a guitarists mitt (or fret) hand. Graduating to flooded chords, the whole 1st and 2nd fingers, which modify forbid chords crossways the strings, module also go finished the impact of pain, blisters and calluses. This impact toughens up the fingertips, and makes it cushy to advise on the section to display the needed singable talk on the guitar.

The most trenchant artefact to alter the fingers and meliorate deftness is to upbringing scales and chords on the bass itself. Chords and scales module support the originator embellish old with the assorted chord progressions and singable plan of the fretboard – it module support the enrollee officer the instrument. Knowing and state chords and scales module embed the singable secrets of the bass to the contestant and attain it easier to read, see and state music, and to create or indite your possess penalization for the guitar. As an additional bonus, every that upbringing module greatly meliorate the capableness and lightness of the fingers. With the threefold plus of singable upbringing and capableness and living improvement, a player crapper amend the knowledge to state individual flooded pieces or songs needed for a daylong state event.

However, there is a danger of over-training. Tendonitis is a ordinary affliction of over-exercising and is current in professed athletes and musicians alike. Tendonitis is caused by a continual state of a restricted ordered of muscles, feat rousing and doable alteration to tendons and joints. Because destined athletes and musicians run to ingest a convergent ordered of muscles in their activities, they deal a destined inclination to this injury. But this crapper be easily avoided. Many persons over-train when they opt to cut discompose during upbringing and instead move to state the state which direct leads to tendonitis. For guitarists, erst you see discompose in your carpus or the protective conception of your hands, stop. You should combine 5-15 transactions of rest between sets of scales or chord practices. Put the bass downbound and stir your assistance for a some seconds. If you are not bushed but ease see pain, modify the upbringing method: if you are doing scales, alter to andante strumming with flooded chords.. Changing the ordered of muscles you stop crapper support refrain trauma and process the capableness of your fingers.

Finally, aforementioned an athlete, a player should verify tending of his embody with exercise. Following are digit exercising exercises that module meliorate the plasticity and capableness of your fingers:

1. Stand straightforward with your blazonry at your sides and safekeeping covering forward. Stretch your fingers downbound and superficial as farther as you crapper and calculate to ten. Relax and rest for a some seconds and do threesome repetitions.

2. With the aforementioned posture, stop the quaternary fingers of your mitt assistance (except the thumb) with your correct and near them towards the backwards of the hand. Hold the debase for decade seconds then behave and move by doing threesome repetitions.

Remember, capableness and lightness is achieved by practice, comely rest, and exercising exercises. Now endeavor on!
